The past few days had been very taxing on both us and the vehicles. We were tired, but I am very happy to say, in good spirits. It was a very long drive to get here, but the other option of 1400km via Lusaka just was not an option.
Come to Zambia, it is fun and simple to get around. Very, very few people did the route we did and even fewer go to North Luangwa. So big credit to Chantal and Conny.
We were very warmly welcomed by Mark Harvey, the owner of Kapishya. He joined us for a very good dinner which we felt we deserved after our difficulties of the past few days. As usual we are the only people here so far. The camping is first class on lawns next to the river. The lodge offers bungalow accommodation if one wishes. The gardens are lush with many plants growing which Mark has gathered on his travels to the east.
Kapishya grows its own coffee (very good) has a large herd of cattle, pigs and chickens. Most of the vegetables and greens are grown by Mark and his team. He produces a wide variety of meat products on the farm as well.
We have decided to relax here today and very pleasant it is too. The hot spring pool is amazing. Fed by three springs, with water going down 120m to be heated naturally, then it surfaces again, filtered through white sand and this feeds a large natural pool with 40deg water. It is magnificent. The birds are amazing here and we are having a good time.
Tomorrow, we plan to visit Shiwa House, the grand mansion built by Mark’s grandfather on our way out.
Next stop is Mutinoldo Wilderness Area for some exercise.
