On paper, this was an easy day of some 300km.
For once, it was. Sunday is rest day in Zambia. Most of the Police Checks are unmanned, the truckers take a rest and the roads are quiet.
We made good progress to Livingstone and decided to go to Taita Falcon Camp for the night. Situated about 20 km outside the main hub, along a rough dirt road the camp was found.
A fantastic sight, the lodge is situated overlooking the main Zambezi Gorge some 3km downstream of the falls. We were warmly welcomed, but that is where it stopped. We should have known better as we were told to wait for about an hour while they "made up" the campsite.
There are only three campsites and seven bungalows here. Run by a retired Saffer from Lichtenberg with a fondness for brandy and coke. He was harmless enough, but did not have his finger on the pulse.
Our campsite had been unused for two years due to Covid. The staff cleaned as best they could, but the water supply was a challenge. They managed to get a supply going at the adjacent camp which was a short walk away. As we had parked vehicles and erected tents we were reluctant to move so we stayed put and walked the short distance to the watered bathrooms.
The hot water arrangement was some paper and diesel in a cup arrangement that I did not have the patience for. We all showered before the sun went down and it was okay as the water was luke warm.
