Woodlands has never disappointed and I am happy to say it kept up the record. As an overnight spot while on the road it is perfect.
07h30 saw me on the A3 main road heading for Nata firstly. Surprisingly at that hour, on a Sunday, the road was busy with trucks coming the other way. No problem with that, but one is very quickly made aware that these juggernauts swerving ahead of you does not mean they are driving under the influence, but avoiding the potholes.
The potholes came in phases and are lethal if you hit them. You soon look out for the deep black skid marks, or the swerving vehicle ahead or even, very kindly, a 30kmh speed sign. Why a speed sign is made up, transported to the site and then erected is beyond me. Surely it is easier just to fill the pothole in?
The day was warm and with about 480km for the drive one just has to grind on. The section from Nata, where the road from Maun comes in, to Kasane is a pleasant drive. One must look out for game on the road. I saw a hyena (too quick for a pic) and elephant as well. Not the sort of road one does at night.

Kasane is just the same so far. Tomorrow Chantal and Conny fly in and we are in Chobe for two days before having to cross the new Kasangula Bridge to Zambia.

How cool that you casually drove past an elephant!?! LOVE IT!
So glad you have had a smooth journey so far Piet with a few look-sees into potholes. We are busy throwing clothes in and out of our bag trying to decide if South Luangwa is going to be hot or cold, what we can wear for walks in the bush and will the Faura's and Conny be dressing for dinner ...... Decisions, decisions and only a small bag! See you soon - yipppeee
