Day 6: Chobe Safari Lodge

Writer's picture: Piet FaurePiet Faure

I have been to Chobe Game Reserve a total of five times. Most times with guides and a few self drive. When the guide stops the vehicle and starts filming with his cellphone you know it is a special sighting. A pride of some 20 lions ranging from the big male resting offstage in the bush to the mothers with cubs varying in age as well as a few teens chucked in.

It was a special time, easily the best I have had with lions. The only downside was that the sun was not up yet to cast that special golden light on the cats. We were so close that we could witness the interaction of the cubs with the mothers. Their calls to mom and mom showing patience with their jacking around as only a mother can do.

After that, the game drive struggled to rise to any great height.

Yesterday Conny and Chantal arrived. Lovely to have some company and to share a bit of the trip with them.

This afternoon a boat cruise planned and with the weather so great it should be a really good time to be had.
