Day 7: Kasane to Livingstone.

Writer's picture: Piet FaurePiet Faure

A short distance of 83 km to drive today, BUT the border crossing to Zambia to accomplish.

The new bridge is magnificent. One goes over from the Botswana side to the Zambian side and all exit Botswana and entrance Zambia in one building.

I relented and broke a rule with myself. I used a fixer! For USD 10 (R160) he promised to get me through in an hour. He said the fee was negotiable. I said the fee is okay, but the time is important to me. So we agreed on every 10 minutes over the hour would have one USD detected from his fee. The pressure was on for him.

I defy anyone to complete all procedures by themselves in under at least three hours. As usual there are no instructions of what to do or where to go, but Probby was the king. He smoothed things over, make copies of documents took me to the various counters as well as the Interpol vehicle check in another building. The entire process took just over an hour. He was not penalised!

The drive to Maramba River Lodge was simple and we are enjoying the campsite next to the river. Maramba is situated about 4km from the Victoria Falls.

We have tomorrow to explore the falls from the Zambian side, something I have not done before.
